**Decolonizing mathematical thinking**

URACCAN's mathematics experts meet at the New Guinea precinct from September 18 to October 02 to develop a workshop on contextualization, updating and articulation of the Mathematics for Life and Basic Mathematics program, from a decolonization approach to mathematical thinking.

The main objective of this activity is to "establish cognitive bases to strengthen the processes of learning mathematics at the University of the Autonomous Regions of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast, through the dialogue and reconfiguration of the Mathematics for Life and Basic Mathematics programs".

URACCAN Academic Director MSc. Letisia Castillo, who is in charge of the activity, says that "we work on the design of a propedeutic with the 4 subjects and a common semester for all subjects, which is meaning the revision of programs, both mathematics and language and literature".

According to Castillo, the new curriculum design incorporates content that strengthens secondary learning so that, when young people enter their careers in the second semester, they "enter with solid foundations in mathematics and oral and written communication", which has meant bringing together two experts in mathematics from each enclosure, to have as results "a program and a math module for the life of propedeutics and subject program" , the latter would be developing in the first half of 2021, with the student again entering, which would strengthen the skills and knowledge that high schoolers bring.

Meanwhile, New Guinea's doctor of mathematics and deputy precinct vice-chancellor Eugenio López Mairena says that "mathematics must be attractive and motivate the importance for everyday use."

The PhD. Lopez says that "it has normally been mythologized that mathematics is difficult, that they are for geniuses, but no, mathematics is present in all the daily life of human beings; therefore, we are working on a program with different learning activities, which allows us to show in the boys that it will serve them for the future and development of life."

In this regard, URACCAN's doctor of mathematics and Project Coordinator William Flores explained that "this encourages young people access to college in a pandemic context, where young people will receive contextualized but decolonized mathematics of Western thought."

Flores further stated that the proposal envisages the technological accessibility and mathematical tools that each student uses. The activity is carried out under the Dialogue of Knowledge and Does programme, sponsored by the Norwegian International Student and Academic Assistance Fund (SAIH) and envisages strengthening the learnings of the university student who will enter in 2021.
